Cherries - Decisions, Decisions

It's been some time since I last posted. Much has happened and I haven't had too much to say about it. I've been in a fog, in a very gray place. I have since emerged and have discovered I have much to say.

It's 91 degrees here in Northern Virginia and it's a beautiful day. I went grocery shopping and spent most of my time in the produce area since I love fruit and vegetables. Everything seemed to be on sale, "2 containers of ripe blueberries just $2.99", delicious asparagus is cheap, juicy peaches are plentiful and affordable. Then I saw the cherries. They were calling my name. Only $2.99 for the bag (I totally missed the small print beyond the number, "per pound") So I got the cherries.

While going through the self checkout I was getting a bit frustrated because I was having problems with the machine reading most of my items. The it was time to ring up the cherries. DAMN! $6.59. They were expensive cherries! Do I get them or don't I get them? Decisions, decisions!

I thought "what the hell" I'm worth expensive cherries, so I got them. And they were DAMN good!

It's a great day for change

Well, I just watched the inauguration and the swearing in of our new President Barrack Obama. I'm sure everyone who joined me felt the same goosebumps when he spoke to our nation about challenges, change, and the future.

My favorite lines from President Obama's inaugural speech:
  • "On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. "
  • "To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."
  • "For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness."
  • "We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you."
It's an awesome time to be an American!

When you reach a certain age...

I have discovered that as one ages, you become less tolerant. For me, I have reached an age (which will remain nameless) where I am less tolerant of:

  • REALLY hot weather
  • REALLY cold weather
  • Children (unless they are related to me)
  • Crowds

That's it. I just had to say that...
